Egon Holstad var musikksjef i avisa Nordlys fra 2005 til 2015, deretter i avisa i Tromsø. I perioden 2011–2012 var han medprogramleder i radioprogrammet Verdensherredømme på NRK P3 sammen med Siri Kristiansen og Kristopher Schau.

Han har også deltatt i flere offentlige debatter, både knyttet opp til den norske musikkbransjen og en rekke andre samfunnsspørsmål. Han har vært gjest i en rekke radio- og tv-programmer og har skrevet og lest inn en rekke kåserier for både Ukeslutt og Reiseradioen. Han er ellers kjent for å ha drevet den kjente platebaren Feedback i Tromsø (1994–2004) og har også hatt sterk tilknytning til utestedet Blå Rock Café.

Han var medforfatter på boka VM: Bobilmemoarer: Tyskland 2006 (2006) og har selv utgitt supporterboka Tromsø - Fra himmel TIL helvete, eyyyyya Tyyyyøøøøøøøøøøøøøl! (2013) samt kaffeboka Den norske kaffesjela - fra svartkopp til cortado (2014). Han har også et mindre bidrag (med gruppa Fem fæle fyrer) på albumet Sannhet På Boks - En Hyllest Til Raga Rockers (2015).

I 2022 ble han tildelt Gullpennen av Riksmålsforbundet.

Egon Holstad is a well-known writer and speaker, awarded the “Golden Pen” (Gullpennen) in 2022 the Norwegian Language Association Riksmålsforbundet. He will play an active role in the HIMF.

Egon Holstad was music director at the Norwegian newspaper Nordlys from 2005 to 2015, then at the newspaper in Tromsø. In the period 2011–2012, he was co-presenter of the radio program Verdensherredømme on Norwegian national radio NRK P3 together with Siri Kristiansen and Kristopher Schau.

He has also participated in several public debates, both related to the Norwegian music industry and a number of other social issues. He has been a guest in a number of radio and television programs and has written and read in a number of drama series for both Ukeslutt and Reiseradioen. He is otherwise known for having run the well-known record bar Feedback in Tromsø (1994–2004) and has also had a strong connection to the nightclub Blå Rock Café.

He was co-author of the book WC: Motorhome Memoirs: Tyskland 2006 (2006), Tromsø - From Heaven to Hell, eyyyyya Tyyyyøøøøøøøøøøøøøl! (2013) as well as the coffee table book Den norske kaffesjela - fra svartkopp til cortado (2014). He also has a minor contribution (with the group Fem fæle fyre) on the album Sannhet På Boks - En Hyllest Til Raga Rockers (2015).

In 2022, he was awarded the Golden Pen by the Swedish Language Association.
