The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach makes Dr. John documentary

Ten years ago, guitarist/singer Dan Auerbach produced the album Locked Down with New Orleans legend Dr. John - also known as Dr. John The Night Tripper. This collaboration has contributed to Auerbach aiming to make his debut as a film director with a documentary film which he says will shed new light on the pianist's life and career.

Dr. John (eg. Malcolm John Rebennach Jr.) died on June 6, 2019, leaving behind a massive catalog of music. His last release while alive came out in 2014, a tribute to Louis Armstrong; Ske-Dat-De-Dat: The Spirit of Satch.

Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011, we can now announce that Dr. John’s long-awaited post-humous country-soul album, Things Happen that Way, will be released on September 23.

Dr. John was working on new music right up until he died, and this record will includes both covers of country songs as well as vocal-support from Willie Nelson and Aaron Neville. Willie's son, Lukas Nelson, and his band The Promise of the Real, also back Dr. John on his classic "I walk on Guilded Splinters".

We will keep you posted here as we learn more about the development of the Dan Auerbach documentary about Dr. John.
