Justin Kreutzmann is directing a new documentary film about Jerry Garcia

Justin Kreutzmann is the son of Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann. His father gave Justin an 8mm camera when he was 8 years old, thus starting a lifelong interest in film. This was an interest he shared with Grateful Dead singer/guitarist Jerry Garcia, who was a film fanatic.

When Justin was just 17 years old, the Grateful Dead asked that Justin direct music video for the song "Touch of Gray" in 1987) that should direct it.

Less than a decade later, Garcia died on August 9, 1995, aged just 53. But even today the music he was instrumental in creating, with the Grateful Dead and others, is alive and well.

Earlier, extensive documentaries have been made about both the band and singer/guitarist Bob Weir, and Kreutzman has been involved in both The Other One (about Weir) and Long Strange Trip: The Untold story of the Grateful Dead.

Now, we are pleased to announce that Kreutzmann has just completed the film Let there be Drums for release in autumn 2022 with the documentary about Garcia expected in 2023.

Stay tuned here as we find out more about the development of the Jerry Garcia documentary by Justin Kreutzmann.
